Books Coming Out

These are books coming out either this month or next that I am really really excited about. Sometimes I will end up talking about a book that comes out later....way later....but I'll usually have finished a book and be really excited about a sequel that comes out later that year or something. This page will spotlight those.

BOOKS TO CRAVE

Right now, I am craving a good mermaid book. I have a few, but the problem is this: I am craving the ones that come out all throughout 2011.

Now that the vampire genre is explored, everyone is getting kind of tired of it. Faeries are still trending, but vampires are dying down. I noticed something that is going to be pretty big in 2011 (thank goodness!): mermaids. A ton of mermaid books are coming out this year. YAY! : )
MERMAID BOOKS (yes, I love them)

Tempest Rising by Tracy Deebs

Tempest Rising

COMES OUT - May 10, 2011
Pages - 352 pages

Description:
Tempest Maguire wants nothing more than to surf the killer waves near her California home; continue her steady relationship with her boyfriend, Mark; and take care of her brothers and surfer dad. But Tempest is half mermaid, and as her seventeenth birthday approaches, she will have to decide whether to remain on land or give herself to the ocean like her mother. The pull of the water becomes as insistent as her attraction to Kai, a gorgeous surfer whose uncanny abilities hint at an otherworldly identity as well. And when Tempest does finally give in to the water's temptation and enters a fantastical underwater world, she finds that a larger destiny awaits her-and that the entire ocean's future hangs in the balance.

My Response: AAH! This looks soooo good! And the cover is so pretty....

Undercurrent: A Siren Novel by Tricia Rayburn

Undercurrent: A Siren Novel
COMES OUT - July 12, 2011
Pages: 352 pages

My Response: Ohmygoodness I'm so excited for this! Last book had a MAJOR cliffhanger! The first book's cover was kind of creepy....and I love this one. I like both of them.

Ripple by Mandy Hubbard

Ripple

COMES OUT - July 21, 2011
Pages - 300 pages

Description:
Lexi is cursed with a dark secret. Each day she goes to school like a normal teenager, and each night she must swim, or the pain will be unbearable. She is a siren - a deadly mermaid destined to lure men to their watery deaths. After a terrible tragedy, Lexi shut herself off from the world, vowing to protect the ones she loves. But she soon finds herself caught between a new boy at school who may have the power to melt her icy exterior, and a handsome water spirit who says he can break Lexi's curse if she gives up everything else. Lexi is faced with the hardest decision she’s ever had to make: the life she's always longed for - or the love she can't live without?

My Response: So depressed about this because I will be at camp WITHOUT WIFI when this comes out so needless to say, I will invent some excuse for me to go to the camp office and sneakily download this on my Kindle in the bathroom or something. I anticipate falling in love with this book. And just look at that cover!

Fins Are Forever by Tera Lynn Childs

COMES OUT - June 28, 2011
Pages - 320 pages

Description: (WARNING - CONTAINS SPOILERS TO FORGIVE MY FINS)

On Lily Sanderson’s eighteenth birthday she’ll become just a girl—still a mergirl, true, but signing the renunciation will ink Princess Waterlily of Thalassinia out of existence. That leaves plain old Lily living on land, dating the boy she loves, and trying to master this being-human deal once and for all.
Now that Lily and Quince are together, mer bond or not, she’s almost content to give up her place in the royal succession of Thalassinia. But just when she thinks she has everything figured out, the waves start to get rough. Lily’s father sends a certain whirlpool-stirring cousin to stay with her on land. What did Doe do to get herself exiled from Thalassinia and stuck in terraped form, when everyone knows how much she hates humans? And why why why is she batting her eyelashes at Lily’s former crush, Brody?
The seafoam on the raging surf comes when a merboy from Lily’s past shows up—Tellin asks Lily for something that clouds her view of the horizon. There’s a future with Quince on land, her loyalty to the kingdom in the sea, and Lily tossing on the waves in the middle. Will she find a way to reconcile her love, her duty, and her own dreams?
My Response: The first one was really light-hearted and a good beach read. It was a good bubble-bath book and was filled with sea slang and cuteness. Quince sounds like an adorable boyfriend and I bought the first book based on the cover (which is so pretty). Great mermaid read. This is yet another sneak-into-the-camp-office-to-use-internet book.

Lost Voices by Sarah Porter

Lost Voices (Lost Voices, #1)
COMES OUT - July 4, 2011
Pages - 304 pages

Description: What happens to the girls nobody sees—the ones who are ignored, mistreated, hidden away? The girls nobody hears when they cry for help?
Fourteen-year-old Luce is one of those lost girls. After her father vanishes in a storm at sea, she is stuck in a grim, gray Alaskan fishing village with her alcoholic uncle. When her uncle crosses an unspeakable line, Luce reaches the depths of despair. Abandoned on the cliffs near her home, she expects to die when she tumbles to the icy, churning waves below. Instead, she undergoes an astonishing transformation and becomes a mermaid.
A tribe of mermaids finds Luce and welcomes her in—all of them, like her, lost girls who surrendered their humanity in the darkest moments of their lives. The mermaids are beautiful, free, and ageless, and Luce is thrilled with her new life until she discovers the catch: they feel an uncontrollable desire to drown seafarers, using their enchanted voices to lure ships into the rocks.
Luce’s own talent at singing captures the attention of the tribe’s queen, the fierce and elegant Catarina, and Luce soon finds herself pressured to join in committing mass murder. Luce’s struggle to retain her inner humanity puts her at odds with her friends; even worse, Catarina seems to regard Luce as a potential rival. But the appearance of a devious new mermaid brings a real threat to Catarina’s leadership and endangers the very existence of the tribe. Can Luce find the courage to challenge the newcomer, even at the risk of becoming rejected and alone once again?
Lost Voices is a captivating and wildly original tale about finding a voice, the healing power of friendship, and the strength it takes to forgive.

My Response: ......(speechless).....

May: Daughters of the Sea by Kathryn Lasky
May (Daughters Of The Sea, #2)
COMES OUT - March 1, 2011
Pages - 328 pages

Description:
Book 2 in Kathryn Lasky's shimmering quartet about mermaid sisters and supernatural love.
May feels her life drying up. The sea calls to her, but her parents forbid her from swimming. She longs for books, but her mother finds her passion for learning strange. She yearns for independence, but a persistent suitor, Rudd, wants to tame her spirited ways. Yet after her fifteenth birthday, the urge to break free becomes overpowering and May makes a life-changing discovery. She does not belong on land where girls are meant to be obedient. She is a mermaid-a creature of the sea.
For the first time, May learns what freedom feels like-the thrill of exploring both the vast ocean and the previously forbidden books. She even catches the eye of Hugh, an astronomy student who, unlike the townspeople, finds May anything but strange. But not everyone is pleased with May's transformation. Rudd decides that if can't have May, no one will. He knows how to destroy her happiness and goes to drastic measures to ensure that May loses everything: her freedom and the only boy she's ever loved.

My Response: wasn't so crazy about the first one. She didn't end it very well. In fact, the ending just kind of confused me. This one looks even better than the last one though and this one looks VERY good. The last one was a good sort of fluff book but this one looks like it would have some substance, so I'm looking forward to it. Plus, it comes out on my friend's birthday and she loves mermaid books so I think I might get it for her....and a copy for myself, of course. The cover is intriguing, though I must ask....why is every girl in a white nightgown?? In practically EVERY mermaid book...

Yes, I was in a mermaid-y mood today, as you can see from my "Top Three Book Types" list....
